Where Did Summer Go?
Summer is almost over and we had a wonderful one, due for the most part, to the wonderful people who took time out of their Spring and Summer and shared it with us. Some prayed, some came and some sent. The first group to come were Wayne Henderson, Craig Henderson, Gregg Dunn, Cindy and Dan Wood. They got the mess from the old roof cleaned up and a new roof put on, giving us a dry place to work although they got soaked doing it. Not only did it rain, it poured.
The next group to come was combination of Senior Life and Vision Ministries of DBC. Al Camp, Al & Traci Jacobson, Ted Trippe, George & Diane Becker, John Williamson, Sandra & Warren Richardson, Roland and Lois Small and of course, THE SOUND MAN, Jeremy Gallamore. This group built a Little White Chapel at Grace Fellowship Church in Kingsport that is almost an exact duplicate (complete with stained glass windows) of the one at DBC, that has been used for years to gather benevolent donations for Vision Ministries. Even the architects are the same, Al and Traci. The Church in Kingsport has named it "The love Chapel". But, that wasn't the only construction going on. Sturdy shelves were were built along a 20 foot wall and half way along another to store clothing and etc. All the overhead lighting was repaired, replaced and/or redone throughout the building.
Then early in July Kendall Lucas brought the Denton Bible Church Student Choir back to East Tennessee. Grace Fellowship Churchs' Community outreach team had arranged for the students to minister along side other students in one of the poorest communities in Tennessee. Mission Lynn Garden 2008 took on a real flesh and blood witness to the love of our Savior.
During the summer Gary and Shirley Sawyer came to see us as did Coe and Donna Kroese. Their visits were a tremendous encouragement.
August 30, 2008 was designated a work day at Mountain Vision storehouse by Calvary Chapel Greeneville and U-Turn for Christ, Greeneville. Twenty three people came to help get the storehouse in shape to open on a regular schedule. The entire roof of the main building was sprayed in order to stop some minor leaks and a wall was constructed to enclose the small boiler which has to remain in the building. A hugh amount of grass was mowed, clothes and merchandise were sorted ane stored, a lot was accomplished, thanks to their hard work.
Now, maybe you can see why we have had such a wonderful summer. Sometimes We look at the task before us and think to ourselves that we are not getting anything done, then after taking a second look we know that we are not getting anything done, but God sure has been busy. He sends us an encouraging word when we need it most, He sends help when we do not expect it, He makes us part of the body. I can't hardly emagine that. So what ever part of the body you are, keep on doing what ever you are doing in order to keep me doing the best that I can. Thank you for your prayers, for your physical help and for your financial support.
Although the storehouse is not in full operation or open during regularly scheduled hours at this time, we have been able to provide badly needed help in a number of cases. Word is getting around concerning the things we plan to do and we are being ask for help more frequently Plants are closing and others are relocating or consolidating and people are loosing their jobs. Food is in great demand.
I continue to provide spiritual care at Mountain Home Veterans Hospital. My workday has changed from Friday to Monday. Monday the workload is heavier. Also continue to teach at the Greeneville jail on a four week rotation. Earlene and I teach at U-Turn for Christ every other Saturday. We are excited that on October 3rd. we will begin a weekly Bible study at Signature Healthcare of Greeneville. Please lift up this new Bible study in prayer because I expect the evil one will oppose this effort
