news bites

Not only is life traveling at a high speed, it appears to be accelerating. Each week seems to be faster than the previous. We're not sure if this is due to busyness or the fact that we're getting older...

Emily is now 20 weeks pregnant--halfway through! This morning we visited the doctor and were made a little nervous because we weren't able to hear the baby's heartbeat. The doctor reassured us that this was because the machine she was using is "trucho" (Argentine slang for crummy, cheaply built, fake, lame, etc.). We have an appointment for a sonogram on Wednesday and are praying that everything is normal and that the sonogram machine will be able to detect a healthy heartbeat.

Last week we traveled to Uruguay (it's only a day trip) to renew our visas. Thankfully the immigration let us through without asking any questions. Officially, we are only tourists in Argentina. The tourist visa expires every 90 days, but can easily be renewed by leaving the country and coming right back. Though there should be no problem with it legally, last time we travelled, the Argentine immigration seemed a bit suspicious about all our trips to and from Uruguay. We've been here almost two years, which means that we've had to do this about seven times. We pray that we will continue to be able to exploit this loophole in the system or find a quick and affordable way to gain our residency.

George and the rest of the team are continuing to work on the revision of the Spanish version of the BTCP. By God's grace we are about 75% of the way through. Our goal was to be completely finished by the end of February, and though it doesn't look like we're going to reach our goal, we ought to at least be finished by the middle of March. It will be a huge blessing to have this done, both for us as a team and for the BTCP ministry in general.

Last week George started his first seminary class. It is an introduction to world missions. He had better pass, or else we might need to reconsider our calling... :)

4. Use George when he speaks at a youth event in Buenos Aires on the second Saturday of September (the 11th).

11.23.2009 November Requests: Please join us in praying that God would:

1. Be the heart of our marriage--our greatest mutual longing, as well as the Lord of every part of our lives.

2. Keep Madeleine healthy and safe and grant her saving repentance and faith at an early age.

3. Continue to allow us to feel useful here (and not just that we'd feel useful, but that He'd actually use us).

4. Raise up godly Argentine men to lead La Union (the church in La Plata).

5. Give our team wisdom and guidance regarding the administration of the Bible Institute.

2. A healthy baby.

3. The BTCP revision, that God would grant us perseverance and a keen eye to finish soon and with excellence.

4. Our small group Bible study, that those who've said they would come would actually attend and that we'd develop a deep authentic community in which we might be stimulated to more ardently pursue the glory of God in the arts.

02.23.2009 February Requests: Please join us in praying that God would:

1. Bless our marriage with God-centeredness, Spirit-filled submission to His Word, and gratitude.
