not going anywhere for a while, hopefully
We are back from our trip to Chaco (a province in northern Argentina). Thank you so much for your prayers for safe travel and for strength and energy despite very little sleep. God heard.
The purpose of the trip was for us to participate in a multi-church family conference that involved churches from all over Chaco in order to develop our team's relationship with them and to share with them about the Bible Training Center for Pastors.
The churches there seemed to be encouraged just by the simple fact that some North Americans would make the trip all the way up there to fellowship with them (the campground where the conference was held is basically a 19 hour trip from where we live in City Bell). There were about 10 pastors and leaders from various churches that listened to George's presentation of the BTCP. About 4 or 5 of them are interested in possibly starting BTCPs in their hometowns.
A little about our recent travels. We calculated between us that in the last 8 days we've slept in 7 different places: Denton, an airplane, City Bell, an overnight bus to Chaco, a tent, a hotel, an overnight bus back from Chaco.
Geographically, Chaco is a lot like west Texas: flat, dry, and HOT. When we got off the bus we felt like we were being suffocated in a heavy down comforter. Thankfully we were treated to incredible hospitality in the home of a family from a local church. There we were able to recover a little bit before we made the trip to the campground where the conference was held. We stayed two sleepless nights in a tent and then left to make the trip home, which involved three more bus rides (one that was overnight) and an hour long remis (which is like a taxi) ride. Needless to say, it is good to finally be back in City Bell with no major travel plans on the horizon.
Thanks again for your prayers for our trip! We are thankful that we've had energy to get things done around the house that need to be done since we've been back.
Thanks also for your prayers for Mike Terry (the pastor who had the triple bypass heart surgery). His recovery is slow (as expected), but going well.
