There is a cultural way of dealing with ones lost things on the streets in France...at least here in Albertville where we are attending language school. If someone loses something and another finds it on the street or sidewalk (to list a few examples I have seen hubcaps, gloves, a winter hat, a soccer ball...) then the finder will prop it up along the walk or road where it was found. The hope is that the individual who truly lost it will return by that way again and be able to reclaim it.
We are here in France much for the same purpose. Roots of Christianity travel back through this land for centuries. But somewhere along the path it was dropped and mostly forgotten. We hope to prop ourselves up and give back to this people what it is that they have lost. Hopefully, much like that glove I saw lately, where the owner would return to it and slip its comfort and warmth back on in the midst of a cold winter day in France.
